I loved riding my bike to school-it was 1 mile and downhill all the way (not so fun going home). I loved our 1-room schoolhouse, though I didn't know anything different. My teacher, Leona Knutson, was wonderful!! She taught grades 1-6 in the same room and seemed to keep order most of the time and we all knew she loved us. I also loved school lunch on Fridays--lunch was brought out from the elementary school in town to all the rural schools. A man in a little pickup brought it in a big white box full of huge thermoses (enough to feed about 30 kids). Anyway, Friday was always mac and cheese and fish sticks (YUM!!) and also we got chocolate milk on Fridays.

I think Miss Dalton was my 1st or 2nd grade teacher. I remember going on a field trip to a pool (??) and talking to Reuben about her possibly being the most beautiful woman in the world. (Gotta love 1st grade perspective.).

I remember having to pick watermelons before school.

I remember a play (Cinderella) where we were the mice. Weird!

I remember watching Ryan (Thornton) riding his bike down the hill from the old road (passed the "L") and thinking he was 'so cool.'

I am pretty sure that Jack Sullivan was the best teacher ever (I can now appeciate his dedication given that commute.)

I attened Littlefield Elementary School from K-8. I was bitter at the time because my friends in Mesquite called me "flaming eagle", UCLA (University of children Littlefield Arizona), etc. I always arrived late to football practice because of the travel time to Mesquite. All my siblings got to go to Mesquite earlier (most after 5th or 6th grade) and I always wanted to go. However, I'll never forget attending school in the old school building, I was there when all of the modulars were brought in. I remember all the playground equipment when it was new (teeter tawter, swings, merry go round, monkey bars) along with the concrete work.
Mrs. Jones used to make homemade meals for lunch and they were great. Mrs. Hughes, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Finlindson, Mr & Mrs. Montgomery, & Ms. Reyes all taught me while I was there.
I remember getting paddled. I had broom sticks, boards, and the paddles with the holes in them all broken over my back side (a few of which I still don't think I deserved). One time I got 10 swats for braking up a fight. Ok I probably deserved all the rest. I broke Brett Millers arm by pushing him into a tree while playing pump. I broke JD Frisbys arm playing chicken, I broke Ryan Bakers arm pushing him into the wall while playing pump (we weren't supposed to play pump, thus the woopins).
I remember Uncle Merv driving the short bus (ya I heard about that too).
I learned a lot and the teachers really cared. I hope my kids receive as much attention and one day appreciate their teachers and school as much as I do now.

*Playing football on a dirt field

*I asked my teacher (Mr. Sullivan) if I could have an aspirin and he told me they were down on the floor in a box. When I bent over to get one he paddled me and asked me if my ass burned.

*Swing on the flag pole that was CM's Eagle Project.

*Field trips to the Sink Hole.

*Never having to ride the short bus.

*Actually Graduating.

The awesome playground!!
The red playhouse that for some reason Kent and I decided it would be fun to throw rocks in and out. UNLUCKY for him he stood up when it was his turn to duck and I threw a big rock right in his face :).
Mr. Montgomery made our classroom into a town, with mayor and comittee and.. it was fun.
